Where Palm Bay homes need a new floor
Palm Bay is the most populous city in Brevard County, with 119,760 residents at the 2020 Census. It was incorporated on January 16, 1960, and covers about 86 square miles of land between the Indian River Lagoon on the east and the St. Johns River on the west. The historic section sits at the mouth of Turkey Creek; the newer parts of the city spread west of Interstate 95 and south of the Tillman Canal.
Much of that land was surveyed into residential lots beginning in 1959, and houses filled them in over the following decades. Census ACS estimates count about 85 percent of Palm Bay homes as single-unit. Roughly a third were built in the 1980s and more than a quarter in the 2000s, while only about 13 percent predate 1980.
Streets that were built one lot at a time
Because the lots filled in gradually, a 1980s block house can sit beside one from the 2000s and another finished in the 2010s. Two neighbors can need very different jobs: one has original carpet and a glued-down sheet vinyl in the kitchen, the other has tile that’s in good shape.
The installer reads each house on its own terms. We check the slab for flatness and moisture, note what has to come out, and price the job from what’s actually there rather than from the street.
Whole-house jobs in a single-family home
With most Palm Bay homes detached and on a slab, a common request is one continuous floor through the living area, hall and bedrooms. Fewer transitions look cleaner, are easier to clean and remove the lip that catches a walker or a vacuum.
We remove the old carpet and tile, haul it away and set new baseboard or quarter round where it’s needed. On older tile, testing the tile and glue precedes removal. Details are on our tile removal page.
Dogs, kids and the back slider
The door to the patio or screened room takes most of the wear in a Florida house: sand, pool water and dog claws. For that traffic we recommend 20 mil, and a 20-mil SPC floor is expected to last 20+ years.
Plank goes into a Florida room only when it’s fully enclosed and cooled, and the product’s instructions allow it. Screened porches and open patios stay off our list.
Palm Bay floor pricing
Our estimate is $5 to $12 per square foot installed, before your discount. A 200 square foot room is roughly $1,200 to $1,900 before the discount. Larger whole-house jobs spread the fixed costs over more footage, and the discount of 50% off your flooring installation is taken from labor.
Run your square footage through the cost calculator, then book the free measurement for a firm number. Financing is available: low monthly payments, 0% interest plans, and same-as-cash offers (for qualified applicants).
