Floors for staying in Palm City
Palm City is a census-designated place in Martin County, not an incorporated city, and it had 25,883 residents at the 2020 Census. It covers 16.4 square miles, about 15% of it water, with the South Fork of the St. Lucie River along its southeast edge and Florida’s Turnpike on the west.
It’s an older community by age: the median resident was 50.8 in 2020, and 27.8% were 65 or older. Of 11,651 housing units, only 8.3% were vacant, so most of the homes we visit are lived in all year. We serve both ZIPs, 34990 and 34991.
Planning for the next twenty years
Sometimes the reason to replace a floor is that it has become a hazard: a curled carpet edge, a tile lip at the bathroom, a rug that slides. Plank run continuously through the main rooms removes most thresholds, and the transitions that remain are low and beveled.
For walkers and wheelchairs, a firm floor rolls far easier than carpet. We’ll talk through which rooms to do first at the in-home visit.
Bedrooms still in carpet
Carpet holds humidity, dust and pet odors, and in a Florida bedroom it’s usually the last thing left from the original house. We pull it, remove the tack strip, prep the slab and lay plank in a day for most rooms.
A 12-mil wear layer suits most bedrooms. Choose 20 mil if a dog sleeps there too.
Houses on the river and canals
About a sixth of Palm City’s area is water. If your home backs onto the South Fork or a canal, the slab deserves a closer look. Slabs near water can hold moisture, so we test the concrete before recommending a product.
SPC is waterproof against spills, leaks and a damp slab. River flooding is outside what any vinyl floor is rated for.
Palm City pricing
Most Palm City projects run $5 to $12 per square foot installed, before your discount. A 200 square foot room is roughly $1,200 to $1,900 before the discount. Carpet removal is quick; tearing out tile and leveling the slab adds more. Use the calculator to see a range, and ask about the 5% senior savings for owners 60 and up.
