Jensen Beach, lagoon to island
Jensen Beach is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in the northeast corner of Martin County. The 2020 Census counted 12,652 people and 7,089 housing units, 14.0% of them empty on census day. The Indian River Lagoon forms its eastern edge, and its main public beach is out on Hutchinson Island, facing the Atlantic.
The town began as a pineapple plantation in 1881. By 1895 it called itself the Pineapple Capital of the World, until a hard freeze that year and fires in 1908 and 1910 ended the farms. Today we work in both of its ZIPs, 34957 and 34958.
Island condos across the lagoon
Buildings on the barrier island tend to have strict flooring rules: written approval first, an acoustic underlayment for anyone with neighbors below, and weekday work hours. We help with the association’s approval paperwork and bring the underlayment specs the manager will ask for.

Two landfalls in September 2004
Hurricane Frances came ashore on Hutchinson Island on September 5, 2004, with 105 mph winds, and Jeanne followed on September 25 at 120 mph. Owners here know how quickly a roof leak can ruin carpet and laminate.
Plank with an SPC core won’t swell from a leak, a spill or a wet slab. Surge and floodwater are a different case entirely, and FEMA’s Technical Bulletin 2 doesn’t list vinyl as flood-damage-resistant.
Salt air and sandy feet
Beach sand is the fastest way to dull a floor. A 20-mil wear layer handles it best, and a mat at every door does as much as the floor itself. SPC plank is also unbothered by the damp air that comes off the lagoon.
Near the water, we set transitions at sliders so they sit flush and don’t catch a beach cart or a walker.
Cost of a Jensen Beach install
Jobs here are estimated at $5 to $12 per square foot installed, before your discount. A 200 square foot room is roughly $1,200 to $1,900 before the discount.
