Stuart homes and the water around them
Stuart is the county seat of Martin County and counted 17,425 residents at the 2020 Census. The city covers 9.53 square miles, and 2.48 of them are water: the St. Lucie River and the Indian River Lagoon meet here, with the Atlantic just beyond. It adopted the slogan Sailfish Capital of the World in 1957.
Incorporated as a town in 1914 and chartered as a city in 1925, Stuart is one of the older towns on this stretch of coast. The census counted 9,803 housing units, and 17.2% were empty on count day. Our four Stuart ZIPs, 34994 through 34997, run well past the city limits, and we work all of them.
Nineteen hurricanes on record
Records list 19 hurricanes passing through Stuart between 1871 and 2005, and Frances and Jeanne both caused moderate damage in 2004. A roof leak or a soaked room is often what starts a floor project here.
We don’t dry buildings or treat mold. Once the space has been dried and rebuilt by the appropriate trade, we measure, check the slab and put down the new floor.
Houses that sit closed for months
A home locked up through the wet season needs its air conditioning running, even at a higher setting. Stale, humid air is what warps laminate and lifts carpet seams. SPC plank doesn’t swell, which is why owners who leave for the summer choose it.
If you’ll be away, we can measure before you go and install on your return, or install while a relative or manager lets us in.
Riverfront slabs and moisture
Homes close to the St. Lucie River and the lagoon sit on concrete slabs that can carry moisture up from below. The installer reads the slab and compares it with the maker’s limit before you choose a product. A waterproof floor handles spills, leaks and a damp slab.
Standing floodwater is a different matter. FEMA’s Technical Bulletin 2 doesn’t class vinyl as flood-damage-resistant, and we won’t tell you otherwise.
What a Stuart floor costs
Our estimates run $5 to $12 per square foot installed, before your discount. A 200 square foot room is roughly $1,200 to $1,900 before the discount. Storm-damaged rooms that need old flooring hauled out and slab patching land higher; straightforward carpet swaps land lower. Start with the calculator, then we’ll price it properly at your door.
