The county seat’s many floors
West Palm Beach is the county seat of Palm Beach County, with 117,415 people (2020 Census). It was incorporated in 1894 and faces the town of Palm Beach across the Lake Worth Lagoon, with the Intracoastal Waterway running between them.
On its western edge, the city keeps Grassy Waters, a wetland that is both a nature preserve and the reservoir for its drinking water. Between the lagoon and that preserve are historic neighborhoods such as Old Northwood, Flamingo Park and El Cid, with their Mediterranean Revival and Mission-style houses, plus the downtown core.
Historic district houses
